The Chaste Youth

By Mujlisul Ulama

HADHRAT AHMAD BIN Saeed (rahmatullah alayh) narrated the following episode which is a sombre naseehat for those involved in evil:

“In Kufah in our locality there lived an extremely handsome youth. In addition to his physical handsomeness, he was exceptionally pious. He devoted all his time to ibaadat. At all times he was in I’tikaaf in the Jaami’ Musjid. His moral character was impeccable. One day a very beautiful woman set eyes on him while he was on his way to the Musjid. Immediately she was captivated by his handsomeness. She fell madly in love with him. For many days thereafter, this woman did not gain the opportunity of revealing her love to this young Aabid (worshipper).

One day while the youth was on his way to the Musjid, the woman ventured into the road and blocked his path. She said: “Before you proceed listen to me, then do as you please.” The youth did not respond. He brushed past her and continued walking to the Musjid. On his way back from the Musjid, the woman again stood in his path. When the youth neared her, she attempted to say something, but the man spoke: “This is a place of suspicion. I do not want anyone to see me standing here with you. (Rasulullah – sallallahu alayhi wasallam — had said: ‘Stay away from places of suspicion.’) Move out of my way.”

The woman said: ‘By Allah! I am well aware of your status. I also do understand that meeting in this way is a cause for suspicion. Nevertheless, I have to say that my heart and every limb of my body are in love with you. Only Allah Ta’ala will decide this matter between us.”

The youth, without responding, silently left for his home. At home he decided to engage in Nafl Salaat, but his heart was in a state of agitation. He sat down to write a letter to the woman. After he completed the letter, he went outside and saw the woman standing in a trance-like state in the same place where he had left her. He threw the letter in her direction and quickly went into his home.

The woman opened the letter and read:

“O woman! You should understand that when a bandah (slave of Allah) commits an act of transgression, Allah Ta’ala overlooks it. When the slave commits the same crime a second time, Allah Ta’ala again overlooks it. But, when he repeatedly indulges in the same sin, then Allah Ta’ala unleashes His Wrath which makes all creation shudder with fear. Who can bear Allah’s punishment? Who can bear His Displeasure? Present yourself in the Court of Allah Who is the Creator of all the worlds. Submit yourself to This Mighty Being. Cultivate love for Him Alone. He is eternal.”

Many days after she had received this letter, the woman once again stood in the road. The youth seeing her, turned to return to his house, but she called: ‘Do not go back. This is my last meeting. She recited some heart-rending poetry, then said: “Now give me some naseehat (advice).” The youth said: “My only advice for you is – save yourself from your own desires and at all times reflect on the aayat: “It is He (Allah) Who possesses your souls during the night time, and He is well aware of what you commit during the day time. Then He resurrects you during the day, so that the appointed time is completed.” He is aware of the stealthy glances of the eyes and that which the breasts conceal.”

The youth departed. The woman remained standing, shedding tears profusely for a long time. Then she too went away and engrossed herself in ibaadat. After a short while she departed from this worldly realm with her Imaan intact.”

According to the Hadith, on the Day of Qiyaamah, when there will be no shade, but the shade of Allah’s Arsh, chaste and pious young men will be honoured to be in the Shade of Allah’s Throne. Besides Divine Love, all other types of love are artificial. Illicit love for the opposite sex is a great calamity. Only if the limits of the Shariah are observed will one be saved from this calamity. Only taqwa can protect the moral purity and chastity of those who suffer the misfortune of becoming enmeshed in this kind of artificial love.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Whoever falls in love and maintains his (or her) moral purity, then dies, verily, he (or she) attains shahaadat (martyrdom).”

For the acquisition of this lofty rank, moral purity and chastity are essential. Moral purity is purity of the eyes, the limbs and even the mind. The grief of this calamity should be borne with Thikrullah and suppression of the inordinate dictates of the carnal nafs.

The Shari’ah View on Inter-Family Marriages

Question: Cousin and inter-family marriages are undoubtedly permitted in Islam. However, current day medical experts believe that certain diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, weak eyesight run in family genes, so if both parents belong to the same family (i.e.  cousins), the children have a higher chance of suffering from these conditions. I have personally observed this.

In some areas where inter-family marriage is the norm, it has been observed that children are born crippled or mentally challenged, with defects and abnormalities which were not present in the earlier generations.

In conclusion, the scientists and doctors firmly believe that inter-family marriages should be discouraged as the children can be born with physical and mental defects. I am curious to know the Islamic perspective on this issue, and my questions are below:

1) Is there any scope in Islam to believe what the medical experts say: that inter-family and cousin marriages are the cause of children born with defects or other genetic diseases?

2) If a person believes what the doctors believe, does that constitute Kufr?

3) What is the ruling on abstaining from inter-family marriages due to this fear of children having these diseases and defects?

ANSWER (By Mujlisul Ulama):

The very fact that Allah Ta’ala has permitted marriage to cousins, and the fact that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) had married his cousin, and the fact that this was the general practice among the Sahaabah, indicate that what the doctors are saying is baseless. The diseases mentioned develop in innumerable families in which there is no inter-family marriages. The development of diseases is not restricted to inter-family marriages. It occurs across the board.

The claim that inter-family marriages per se is a cause of disease is utterly baseless. If it has to be accepted that it does cause disease on the basis of the existence of disease in some such marriages, then by the same token could it be argued that outer-family marriages also cause disease because we have seen numerous such marriages in which the children are diseased, crippled and deformed.

It is unintelligent and unscientific to regard inter-family marriages as a cause of disease to be a rule and an established fact. We are aware of countless such marriages in which not a single child is diseased or crippled.

However, if it is known that in a certain family the children are diseased, then it is permissible to refrain from marrying in that family whether the family is closely related or total outsiders.

The issue of disease has nothing to do with inter-family marriage. The inheritance of disease could be in inter-marriage or outer-marriage.

To believe that inter-family marriage per se is definitely a cause of disease is close to kufr. Abstaining from such a marriage purely on the basis of this belief despite the fact that the cousin’s family is free of disease, is also close to kufr. However, if it is observed that a certain disease is to be found in the majority of the members of a family, then it will be permissible to abstain from marrying in that family regardless of whether the family is a complete stranger or a relative. The issue does not concern only inter-family marriages. It applies equally to outer-family marriages.

Clarification on Imam Abu Hanifa’s Statement about the Faith of Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu anhu) and Iblees

The following is a response to a Shia Raafidhi’s slander post: “Faith of Abu Bakar and faith of satan are one: Abu Hanifa”.

Slave of Ahlubait quotes:

وحدثني إبراهيم بن سعيد نا أبو توبة عن أبي إسحاق الفزاري قال:

كان أبو حنيفة يقول: إيمان إبليس وإيمان أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه واحد قال أبو بكر يا رب وقال إبليس يا رب

(Two chains) Abu Ishaq al Fazari says that Abu Hanifa use to say that faith of iblees and faith of Abu bakar are one. Abu Bakar said: o God. and Ibless said: o God”

The statement provided by Imam Abu Hanifa (rahimahullah) can be understood easily if one lets go of baseless preconceptions. Imam Abu Hanifa (rahimahullah) is not referring to the common terminological meaning of the term “faith”. Today, when Muslims refer to “faith” we often say that faith is driven by the heart, the tongue, and the actions of the limbs. According to this interpretation, it would mean that Iblees and Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu anhu) were at the same level in all of these, which is an opinion that cannot be ascribed to Imam Abu Hanifa except by a complete ignoramus.

The correct interpretation is that faith in this narration refers to “belief”. In other words, Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu anhu)’s belief in Allah is at the same level of Iblees, who has a greater belief in Allah than all mankind and Jinn, since he witnessed things that nobody witness and was present at the creation of Adam (alayhissalaam), and so on and so forth.

One may argue, “Why would Imam Abu Hanifa (rahimahullah) use Iblees as an example, instead of Jibreel (alayhis salaam), or any other angel?” The answer may be to simply illustrate that belief does not necessitate good actions, or to demonstrate that belief is only rewarded with good actions accompanying it.

Qur’an About the Origin Of Milk

The formation of milk from blood and FARTH فرث (dissolved or digested food’s material), mentioned in the Noble Quran and confirmed by Science!

The sections of this article are:

1-  Allah Almighty’s Divine Claims.

(a)-  Analysis on what chyme is.
(b)-  The Translations and Detailed Analysis on the Arabic word فرث.
(c)-  So what do we see?

2-  Blood, protein, calcium, vitamins, sugars and the many other minerals – the Scientific Notion and Miracle!

      –  Red blood creating white milk???

3-  The Scientific Proofs.
4-  Conclusion.

1-  Allah Almighty’s Divine Claims:

The Noble Quran is filled with scientific statements and notions. These are statements of Allah Almighty describing how He created things on earth and in the Universe. What’s most amazing is that all of these scientific statements and notions had been proven to be in perfect agreement with science and our modern-day scientific discoveries. Allah Almighty made the Noble Quran be Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) Everlasting Divine Miracle and proof for Prophethood. The Holy Book certainly stood the test of time 1,500 years ago with Its Claims, Prophecies and Miraculous language eloquence, and it does again and again in our day today with Its overwhelming agreement with science and discoveries that were not known to man 1,500 years ago.

Allah Almighty in Noble Verse 16:66 Said that the cattle’s milk is formed from its blood and FARTH فرث :

Noble Verse(s) 16:66 Arabic (from right to left):

16:66 وان لكم في الانعام لعبرة نسقيكم مما في بطونه من بين فرث ودم لبنا خالصا سائغا للشاربين

Palmer:
[016:066] Verily, ye have in cattle a lesson; we give you to drink from that which is in their bellies, between chyme and blood,- pure milk,- easy to swallow for those who drink.

Notice the following four key Arabic words:

1-  بين
which means  “between”

2-  فرث
which means “dissolved food” as we will clearly see below.

3-  و
which means “and”.

4-  دم
which means “blood”.

(a)-  Analysis on what chyme is:

We’ve clearly seen from the English translations, above, “chyme” is one of the meanings of the Arabic word فرث.  So what is chyme??

From http://library.thinkquest.org/28807/data/dig3.htm:

Digestion from mouth to stomach

Digestion begins in the mouth. Chewing is very important to good digestion for two reasons. When chewed food is ground into fine particles, the digestive juices can react more easily. As the food is chewed, it is moistened and mixed with saliva, which contains the enzyme ptyalin. Ptyalin changes some of the starches in the food to sugar.

After the food is swallowed, it passes through the oesophagus into the stomach. In the stomach it is thoroughly mixed with a digestive juice by a vigorous, to-and-fro churning motion. This motion is caused by contractions of strong muscles in the stomach walls.

The digestive juice in the stomach is called gastric juice. It contains hydrochloric acid and the enzyme pepsin. This juice begins the digestion of protein foods such as meat, eggs, and milk. Starches, sugars, and fats are not digested by the gastric juice. After a meal, some food remains in the stomach for two to five hours. But liquids and small particles begin to empty almost immediately. Food that has been churned, partly digested, and changed to a thick liquid is called chyme. Chyme passes from the stomach into the small intestine.

(b)-  The Translations and Detailed Analysis on the Arabic word فرث:

1-  In Dr. Zaghloul Al-Naggar’s (one of the world’s top geologists) web site, we read the following:

My translation:

Second: The formation of milk from between FARTH and blood inside the cattle:

Milk is essentially formed from proteins, carbohydrates, fat, and many other elements, and vitamins and water.  And all of this is extracted from the animal’s nutrition (food), drink and blood, which this Noble Verse has described through Allah Almighty’s Statement: “from between FARTH فرث and blood.”  And the FARTH is the substances that are eaten and are not completely digested in the gut, and because of that it (the farth) is sometimes also called the gut’s load (food), and when it is extracted from the gut it is called ROUTH روث.

(End of translation)

So when Allah Almighty Said that milk is formed from the PROCESSED FARTH (food or gut’s load) and the blood, He, the Almighty, basically Said that the substance of milk is essentially created from the processed or dissolved substances that come from the GUT’S LOAD or FARTH (which is what we humans call today proteins, vitamins, sugars, minerals and so on…) and BLOOD.

2-  Google’s Online Arabic-English dictionary contradiction:

Google erroneously translated فرث as dung [1].  But when we look up dung, it translates it as روث only [2].

3-  From the Encyclopedic 10-Book Lisan Al-Arab [2] Dictionary:

My Translation:

The FARTH is the food being digested (al-sirjeen) as long as it is still in the gut.  It’s plural is FUROOTH.  Ibn Sydah said: the FARTH means al-sirqeen.  The FARTH is also al-furatha, which means the gut’s sirqeen (the food being dissolved/processed in the gut).
……..
وفَرَّثَها: فَتَّتَها means to FARTH something is to dissolve it.
……..
And in Um Kalthoom’s Hadith (the grand daughter of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him), the daughter of Ali, she said to the people of Kufah: Do you know which liver you caused to FARTH of the Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him? (this is metaphoric, because the Prophet had already passed away.  She was referring to the injustice that these people were doing to the Prophet’s immediate family).  The FARTH: Dissolving (the liver of the Prophet by the injustice done to his family).

(End of translation)

Furthermore, فتت (fattah) in Arabic, which is what فَتَّتَها (to dissolve it), above, is derived from, means:

فَتَّ الشيءَ يَفُتُّه فَتّاً، وفَتَّتَه: دَقَّه.

Fattah something is to break it down into small pieces.  And fattatahu وفَتَّتَه  means دَقَّه to pound it or to turn it into powder (From me, Osama Abdallah: This is similar to pounding wheat into flour دقُّ القمح).

(c)-  So what do we see?

We see the English translations of Noble Verse 16:66, above, translating فرث as “chyme” and “digested food”.  We also saw from the encyclopedic 10-Book Lisan Al-Arab Dictionary that to فرث something means to dissolve it.  And we’ve also seen from Dr. Zaghloul Al-Naggar’s analysis that:

1-  فرث means dissolved or digested food.

2-  روث means dung.

I’ve also pointed out Google’s online Arabic-English dictionary’s error and contradiction in it’s translations of  فرث and روث

2-  Blood, protein, calcium, vitamins, sugars and the many other minerals – the Scientific Notion and Miracle!

Blood here is the key word in Noble Verse 16:66, because our modern-day scientific terms (calcium, vitamins, protein, and so on) were not known to man 1,500 years ago. That is why Allah Almighty summed them all up in one lone Notion that was only mentioned once in the entire Noble Quran, which is the word FARTH.  That is indeed a Miraculous Notion because the Noble Word, FARTH, has indeed perfectly described all of the protein, vitamins, sugars, all of other substances that we know of today that are contained in milk.

Red blood creating white milk?!

Of course, blood inside our bodies isn’t red and neither did Allah Almighty say it is red, but to man 1,500 years ago, it was red, and the fact that Allah Almighty mentioned (red) blood – that man visually sees in animals – to be combined with the substances of FARTH, further demonstrates that we have indeed an indisputable Scientific Notion and Miracle in the Noble Verse 16:66, because for man to claim that red blood is part of white milk’s ingredients was most probably perceived as a very crazy or absurd statement, to man, 1,500 years ago. But yet, it is scientifically true as we clearly see below.  This is why Allah Almighty told the Arabs that Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was not crazy:

Noble Verse(s) 15:6 Yusuf Ali:

[015:006] They say: “O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)!

Arabic (from right to left):

15:6 وقالوا ياايها الذي نزل عليه الذكر انك لمجنون

Noble Verse(s) 26:27 Yusuf Ali:

[026:027] (Pharaoh) said: “Truly your apostle who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!”

Arabic (from right to left):

26:27 قال ان رسولكم الذي ارسل اليكم لمجنون

Noble Verse(s) 37:36 Yusuf Ali:

[037:036] And say: “What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?”

Arabic (from right to left):

37:36 ويقولون ائنا لتاركوا الهتنا لشاعر مجنون

Noble Verse(s) 44:14 Yusuf Ali:

[044:014] Yet they turn away from him and say: “Tutored (by others), a man possessed!”

Arabic (from right to left):

44:14 ثم تولوا عنه وقالوا معلم مجنون

 Noble Verse(s) 51:39 Yusuf Ali:

[051:039] But (Pharaoh) turned back with his Chiefs, and said, “A sorcerer, or one possessed!”

Arabic (from right to left):

51:39 فتولى بركنه وقال ساحر او مجنون

Noble Verse(s) 52:29 Yusuf Ali:

[052:029] Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed.

Arabic (from right to left):

52:29 فذكر فما انت بنعمة ربك بكاهن ولامجنون

 Noble Verse(s) 68:2 Yusuf Ali:

[068:002] Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed.

Arabic (from right to left):

68:2 ماانت بنعمة ربك بمجنون

 Noble Verse(s) 68:51Yusuf Ali:

[068:051] And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: “Surely he is possessed!”

Arabic (from right to left):

68:51 وان يكاد الذين كفروا ليزلقونك بابصارهم لما سمعوا الذكر ويقولون انه لمجنون

 Noble Verse(s) 81:22Yusuf Ali:

[081:022] And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed;

Arabic (from right to left):

81:22 وماصاحبكم بمجنون

All Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty Alone!  Let us now see how science describes the formation of milk, and whether or not the blood and FARTH (فرث) that Allah Almighty mentioned are indeed confirmed by science.

3-  The Scientific Proofs:

The following articles clearly and indisputably confirm Allah Almighty’s Divine Claim in Noble Verse  16:66.

Article #1:

“Milk Biosynthesis

Milk is synthesized in the mammary gland. Within the mammary gland is the milk producing unit, the alveolus. It contains a single layer of epithelial secretory cells surrounding a central storage area called the lumen, which is connected to a duct system. The secretory cells are, in turn, surrounded by a layer of myoepithelial cells and blood capillaries.

The raw materials for milk production are transported via the bloodstream to the secretory cells. It takes 400-800 L of blood to deliver components for 1 L of milk.

Proteins: building blocks are amino acids in the blood. Casein micelles, or small aggregates thereof, may begin aggregation in Golgi vesicles within the secretory cell.Lipids:C4-C14 fatty acids are synthesized in the cellsC16 and greater fatty acids are preformed as a result of rumen hydrogenation and are transported directly in the bloodLactose: milk is in osmotic equilibrium with the blood and is controlled by lactose, K, Na, Cl; lactose synthesis regulates the volume of milk secretedThe milk components are synthesized within the cells, mainly by the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and its attached ribosomes. The energy for the ER is supplied by the mitochondria. The components are then passed along to the Golgi apparatus, which is responsible for their eventual movement out of the cell in the form of vesicles. Both vesicles containing aqueous non-fat components, as well as liquid droplets (synthesized by the ER) must pass through the cytoplasm and the apical plasma membrane to be deposited in the lumen. It is thought that the milk fat globule membrane is comprised of the apical plasma membrane of the secretory cell.

Milking stimuli, such as a sucking calf, a warm wash cloth, the regime of parlour etc., causes the release of a hormone called oxytocin. Oxytocin is relased from the pituitary gland, below the brain, to begin the process of milk let-down. As a result of this hormone stimulation, the muscles begin to compress the alveoli, causing a pressure in the udder known as letdown reflex, and the milk components stored in the lumen are released into the duct system. The milk is forced down into the teat cistern from which it is milked. The let-down reflex fades as the oxytocin is degraded, within 4-7 minutes. It is very difficult to milk after this time.”(Source)

Article #2:

“The carbohydrate lactose gives milk its sweet taste and contributes about 40% of whole cow milk’s calories. Lactose is a composite of two simple sugars, glucose and galactose. In nature, lactose is found only in milk and a small number of plants (McGee 17). Other components found in raw cow milk are living white blood cells, mammary-gland cells, various bacteria, and a large number of active enzymes (McGee 16).

“White blood cells in Milk- Milk contains varying levels of white blood cells, depending upon the health of the source animals;….

“No study has ever conclusively demonstrated that the levels of white blood cells found in normal milk actually pose any health risk to normal individuals. The concept of pus in one’s milk is somewhat reviling, but evidence for an impact on health is not existent….

“In addition, the cows frequently contract an udder infection known as mastitispartly responsible for the aforementioned prevalence of blood cells in dairy products. (Source)

As we clearly and indisputably see in the above scientific articles, the formation of milk from FARTH and blood is clearly confirmed!  Indeed, all Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty alone!

It’s just quite amazing!

It is truly quite amazing that Allah Almighty in the Noble Quran Said these precise words through the tongue of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, that no ordinary person would’ve thought about. I mean who would’ve been able to come up with such sentences and words 1,500 years ago to describe the formation of milk from red blood and processed food?  Who on earth would’ve thought about that??

The answer is simple. The Prophet didn’t think about anything. He only spoke what was sent down to him from Divine Truth and Revelations!  Allah Almighty Said:

“We will soon show them Our signs in the Universe and INSIDE THEIR SELVES, until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient as regards your Lord that He is a witness over all things?  (The Noble Quran, 41:53)

Indeed, all Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty alone for making the Noble Quran be the Perfect and Everlasting Miracle, for us humans, out of all of His Divine Miracles!  And may Allah Almighty send His Peace, Mercy and Blessings upon our Beloved and Blessed Prophet, Teacher and Role Model, Muhammad.  Ameen.

 4-  Conclusion:

Again, the Noble Quran is filled with scientific statements and notions.

Allah Almighty’s miraculous claim and notion regarding milk being formed from processed FARTH (food or gut load) and blood is indeed confirmed by science.  Neither was the knowledge regarding the contents of FARTH known to man, nor did man know that blood, which was visually known TO BE RED to man 1,500 years ago, would form WHITE MILK.

Aameen.

Afghanistan & Iran in light of the Hadith Prophecies

From Ink of Scholars Archives

The narrations of the Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) prophesy of a Muslim force from the East (“al-Mashriq”), possibly from the land of “Khorasan” (Ahmad, Tirmithi, etc, Hasan/Da`eef, ikhtilaaf) which is today Afghanistan, that will march towards the West conquering everything in site and will remain undefeated until they reach Jerusalem (termed “Eeliyaa'” in the Hadith). They and their Ameer will give bay`ah to the Mahdi. However, in the path of this force from the East lies a powerful behemoth called Iran from where the Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said Dajjal will appear with a following of 70,000 Jews in Isfahaan (Abu Bakr, Radhi Allahu `anhu, said this would be in the direction of Khorasan in the city of Isfahan). Thus we can assume there will be a major war between the forces of the Sunnah in the East and the Iranians and their “70,000 Jews” (Sahih Muslim) who lie in the path of Jerusalem. While there remains difference of opinion regarding the authenticity of some of these narrations, they seem to be taking shape in spite of the ikhtilaf.

As is well known, Iran was the bastion of the Sunnah throughout much of Islam’s history since the Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam). The Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) had said that knowledge would be carried by the people of Salman al-Farisi, i.e. the Persians (Sahih al-Bukhari). This was fulfilled in the fact that our Sunnah was recorded and preserved by the greatest Imams of Hadith such as Imam al-Bukhari, Imam Muslim, Imam at-Tirmithi, Imam Abi Dawud, and others. This legacy continued until the tragic conquest of Iran in the 16th century by the Azeri heretics called the Safavids. Upon their conquest, Iran went from 90% Shaafi`ee to 90% Shi`i nearly overnight.

“The Shah is said to have threatened that death would be the penalty for any opposition to his wishes with respect to religion. If anyone had thought this an empty threat, they were soon to be disabused. As the Safawid forces marched across Persia, Shi’ism was imposed at the point of the sword. Sunnis who were reluctant to see the error of their ways were treated with great brutality. Many were executed.”

“But such opportunistic defectors from Sunnism, useful and indeed essential as they were, could not provide the theological and legal backbone for the new Shi’i establishment. No one in Persia could do this. Shah Isma’il Safavi had to look elsewhere….Many of the leading theologians and lawyers of the Safawid period were of ‘Amili origin, including the most influential religious figure of Isma’il’s own time, al-Karak. The religious brain drain to Persia long continued: it was not a merely temporary phenomenon.” [“Shah Isma`il and the Establishment of Shi`ism”, Medieval Persia: 1040-1797, pp. 112-123, David Morgan]

The population had the choice to die or become Shi`ah. The entirety of the `Ulama’ were slaughtered and heretics from Lebanon brought in to create a new breed of Shi`ism which had only been known by madmen in the hills of the Caucasus and Amili in Lebanon. Since this event, Iran which was a center of Islamic civilization turned into a chasm of darkness and doom for the past 400 years. Iran has been Shi`a for only last 3 centuries of its 12 centuries of its Islamic history. In this time the Safavids moved the capital to Isfahan, the place of Dajjal’s emergence. So successful were the Safavids in thwarting the Ottoman’s incursions into  Europe that the Austrians prayed for their victories in their churches and its diplomats remarked, “Had it not been for the (Safavid) Shah, we would be reading the Qur’an today like they do in Barbary (North Africa).”

However, in this period only one people were able to present interlude to this darkness. They were a tiny band of a few thousand Afghan tribesmen (mostly Ghilzai Pashtuns) who crushed the Safavids in a series of battles and marched towards their capital, Isfahan, and captured it in 1722. This small band of tribesmen with no formal training in warfare did what the Ottomans could never do, destroy the Safavid Empire. However, as has been the legacy of these fierce tribesmen, no one has ever been able to defeat them, nor have they ever been able to rule as statesmen. Thus, it was only shortly afterwards that they rescinded back into their now independent Afghanistan leaving Iranian rule to Nader Shah and a succession of short-lived dynasties overthrowing each other until the emergence of the Pahlavis from whom the Shah of Iran who reigned in the 70’s drew his authority.

In 1998 Iran protested the alleged murder of 10 of its diplomats who were serving as spies in Afghanistan, supporting the  Northern Alliance, during the fall of Mazar-e-Sharif. They lined up 200,000 Iranian soldiers along the border with Afghanistan to avenge the murder of their diplomats. The Taliban sent 15,000 soldiers to the border. The Iranians retreated and abandoned their plan to invade Afghanistan. They claimed they were only there to have a parade. Immediately afterwards a deal was struck to have the diplomats bodies flown to Iran. It was a huge loss of face for Iran, a shock to the world and a reverberating echo of history’s lesson not forgotten by Iran: the Afghans are their conquerors.

This threat has brought resounding international support for Iran and increased Russian interest in making Iran a nuclear power in the region. Former foes are now binding bonds of friendship with Iran in an attempt to thwart the dropping of a domino in a line that ends in the Mediterranean Sea. However, now a new threat exists for Iran. Increasing admiration for the Taliban and their style of rough “no-politics” style of rule. Recently, in Iran pulpits resounded in admiration for the Taliban during Friday Prayer.

“‘The Taliban, which we always curse, have managed to restore security for their people. Why cannot we do the same?’ Qorbanali Dorri Najafabadi said during Friday prayers in Tehran.”

The Iranian people’s dissatisfaction for the darkness and lack of optimism inherent with Shi’ite philosophy, which focuses on the martyrdom of historical figures rather than faith, led them to rejoice in the secularism of the Shah. When the Shah’s regime produced increasing corruption and tyranny at the hands of the SAVAC secret police, the Iranian revolutionaries began rallying for support in Universities across Iran. They promised Islamic rule, freedom from corruption, and restoration of cultural morality and tradition. In over 20 years since the so-called “Islamic Revolution” this promise has proven a lie. Prostitution and drug abuse are higher now in Iran than they have ever been in its entire history, even during the Shah’s secularist rule.

“The report says there are up to two-million drug addicts, some of them school children, with an estimated five tonnes of narcotics consumed every day in the capital, Tehran.”

“‘Drug addiction is the rage among school children, prostitution has increased 635% among high school students and the (growth) rate of suicide in the country has exceeded the record by 109%,’ says the report.”

“Mr Zam says the average age of prostitutes has dropped from 27 to 20 years over the past few years, with a growing but unspecified number of women involved. Nearly all the young girls who run away from home end up as prostitutes, he said.” [http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/middle_east/newsid_822000/822312.stm
; BBC, July 2000]

This report was conducted by Mohammad Ali Zam, the head of Tehran’s cultural and artistic affairs. According to the report there are:

2,000,000 drug addicts 5 tons of opium used daily in Tehran alone (Iran’s capital) Drugs in schools and recreation centres Average age of prostitutes fell to 2090% (!) of schoolgirl run ways lured into prostitution Suicide growth rate doubles 12,000,000 people living in poverty. This conucopia of social ills which have been increasing in Iranian society at an alarming rate, coupled with the insistent denial of the current regime, have left the Iranian people and even much of its regional government and clergy to admire their Sunni eastern neighbours, the Taliban.

Afghanistan had similar social woes under the years of chaos which ensued following the expulsion of the Soviets under Ahmad Shah Masood, Rabbani and the others who make up the current “Northern Alliance” which has its stronghold in Badakhshan, the remaining 5-10% not ruled by the Taliban. In these years of constant war under the ousted  Northern Alliance, Afghan girls were kidnapped on their way to school and sold to wealthy land lords in neighbouring Pakistan.

Warlords, upon conquering a territory, albeit briefly, would frequent the homes in search of young girls to use as sex slaves, some far below the ages of puberty. Afghanistan was the world’s leading producer of Opium, with some 75% of the world’s supply coming from within its borders.

The Taliban eradicated crime in Afghanistan to nearly 0% overnight. They eliminated all opium production in  Afghanistan overnight, thereby, receiving lukewarm and reluctant praise from the United States for their elimination of 75% of the world’s opium supply. Upon my recent visit to Madinah I asked several Afghans visiting from Afghanistan about the situation. When I asked one Uzbek shop owner about the current situation in Afghanistan, he replied, “There is still fighting..” I asked him what he thought about the Taliban, being an Uzbek minority. He remarked, “Uzbek, Pashtoon, Tajik. This has nothing to do with it. What matters is that I can watch my daughter walk from one end of the street to the next and not worry. Whether I like them or not makes no difference.” I asked one nomad from Gardes, who was a Pashtun, in the Masjid an-Nabawi what he thought about the situation in Afghanistan.

He told me with great enthusiasm, “Its very good. We have the Taliban now and we feel safe.” I met one Shaykh in the Haram at Makkah and immediately recognized him as an Persian (Dari) speaking Afghan. When I asked him if he was Afghan he replied, “Tajik astum” (“I am a Tajik”). So I remarked, “I see. So you are from Tajikistan?” He replied tersely, “No, I am Tajik from Afghanistan”. His refusal to acknowledge himself as an Afghan struck me as odd. It turned out he was a Shaykh of Hanafi fiqh in the Haram at Makkah of incredible knowledge and a very excellent Muslim, MaSha Allah. He mentioned that he did not trust any of the parties involved in the fighting and that they must sit at the table and create a multi-ethnic broad based government. He continued, that it seems nobody wants this and that they simply want to kill each other. However, he concluded that Afghanistan is now completely rid of crime and this is something he can not ignore in spite of his differences with the Taliban.

Being someone with extensive personal experiences with the Afghans and constant interaction and contact with them, I find these frequent media reports of brutality under the Taliban as laughable at best, and maliciously false at worst. Anyone familiar with the Afghan languages of Dari and Pashto will note the dubious over-dubbed translations of the civilians’ words.

Likewise, recent photographs provided by RAWA (feminist group of former Communists, who openly reject Hijab) of alleged Hazara mass graves in a recent CNN special on Taliban “brutality” reveal corpses with Indo-European features common amongst the Tajiks and Pashtoons, whereas the Hazaras are an ethnic group descended from Mongol and Chinese mercenaries who are distinctly Oriental in appearance. One wonders that in spite of all this alleged Taliban “brutality” and supposed “suppression of media”, they allow these malicious journalists to wander the country filming completely unharmed. The equation doesn’t add up to any sum of logic other than journalistic fabrication and political propaganda which the world has been so familiar with since World War II in swaying political opinion towards government foreign policies.

The current world opinion against the Taliban is directly related to the threat they pose as an Islamic expansionist force in Central Asia. Unlike the Iranian Revolution of 1979, the Taliban’s ideology is spreading like wildfire all throughout Central Asia much to the chagrin of the Russians and former Communist bosses who rule the Central Asian Turkic republics. This popularity has forged many revolutionary groups who are serious threats to their ruling governments throughout the Turkic republics. It has even spread to the Xing Kiang  province of Northwest China with whom lie the origins of the Turkic peoples. Now that the Capitalist world has won its war against Communism, a new threat exists to their democracy”: Shari`ah. For the first time in 100 years this threat exists again to the Western World and their allies in Asia such as Russia, India and China. The re-emergence of this threat can be credited to none other than the Taliban. The Taliban’s uneasy relationship with its Northern neighbours of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan as well as its constant policy of hostility to its Western neighbor, Iran, fortell a cycle of events that could lead to the very end of the world according to the Prophet’s (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) narrations. Afghanistan  emerging as the flowerbed of battles in the late 20th and now 21st centuries is no co-incidence at all. This makes Iran incredibly nervous.

“‘Such people who took the podium in Friday’s prayers suggesting envy for the Taliban have insulted the late imam (Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini), and their stance is unacceptable,’ the official IRNA news agency quoted Khatami as telling a news conference limited to Iranian journalists.”

They have indeed only begun to attack the legacy of the late Ayatollah Khomeini and his curses upon the Companions and Wives of the Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam). The only choice for Iran to face this threat is to join hands with their enemy’s greatest foes, primarily the U.S, Europe, Russia and India. Thus, they have sealed their membership amongst the disbelieving world and inevitable partisanship of the False Messiah, ad-Dajjaal.

Then, of course, this scenario threatens the current puppet Arab regimes and has their despots quivering in fear. Naturally, an image of wild Afghans nearing their borders demanding bay`ah to a Messianic figure and adherence to Shari`ah would certainly bring a close to the trips to Las Vegas and the long yacht parties. Perhaps some members of the Saudi family might risk losing their majority shares in Euro-Disney. So their solution has been to utilize the most efficient weapon they have in fighting any revivalist movements in the Muslim world: their scholars. Saudi Arabia’s own home grown indigenous Muslim scholarship has successfully placed a sound muzzle upon the Muslim world convincing it that revolution is “fitnah”. Of course, they didn’t think it was fitnah when they revolted against the Ottoman Empire, thereby, robbing the Muslim world of its last dignified stronghold all at the behest of the British. Thus, utilizing this effective tool, the Saudi scholars have been working overtime to convince the Muslim world that all references to “black flags from the East” are fabrications. I did check into one of these Hadeeth and its “isnad” or chain of narration. The Hadith is as follows:

“Thawbaan reported that the Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘Three will fight for the your treasure (of the Ka`bah), each of them the son of a ‘Khalifah’, it will be rendered to none of them. Then from the direction of the East will emerge black flags. Then they will fight you like they have fought none before.’ Then some words were spoken which I did not remember. He then said, ‘If you see him, give bay`ah to him even if you must crawl over ice. For, verily, he is the ‘Khalifah’ of Allah (Khalifatullaah), the Mahdi”. This Hadith is found in Ibn Maajah, Ahmad’s Musnad, al-Hakim’s Mustadrak and others. Now when analyzing the chain of narration found in Ibn Maajah’s Sunan I found the narrators to be the following:

1) Reported to Ibn Majah by both Muhammad bin Yahya and Ahmad bin Yusuf – Both reliable; Imam Muslim has said about Ahmad bin Yusuf, “He is reliable (thiqqah).” an-Nasaa’i has said, “There is no problem in him.” ad-Daraqutni has said, “Reliable and noble (thiqqah nabeel).”

2) `Abdur-Razzaq bin Hammaam as-San`aani – Reliable. Ahmad bin Hanbal was asked about him, “Have you seen anyone better in Hadith than `Abdur-Razzaaq?” He replied, “No”.

3) Sufyaan ath-Thawri – Too reputable to record his merits. Very reliable. Shu`bah, Sufyaan bin `Uyaynah, Abu `Aasim an-Nabeel and Yahya ibn Ma`een among others said: “Sufyaan is the ‘Ameer al-Mu’mineen” of Hadith”!

4) Khalid bin Mahraan al-Hathaa’ – Reliable. Ahmad bin Hanbal has said, “Trustworthy (thabt).” Ibn Ma`een and an-Nasaa’i have both said, “Reliable (thiqqah).”

5) Abi Qulaaba Abdullaah bin Zayd al-Harrani – Reliable. Muhammad bin Sa`d has said in his “at-Tabaqah ath-Thaaniyah min Ahl al-Basrah” about him, “He was reliable (thiqqah).”

6) Abu Asmaa’ `Amroo bin Marthad ar-Rahabi – Reliable. al-`Ijly has said about him, “Shami, Tabi`ee, Reliable (thiqqah).”

7) Thawbaan – Companion and servant of the Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam).

8) The Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam). [“Tahtheeb al-Kamaal” of al-Mizzi and “Tahtheeb at-Tahtheeb” of Ibn Hajar were referenced for verification of the Narrators]

In this chain of narrators, weakness is nowhere in sight. Thus, focus has been taken away from the chain of narration and placed upon the term “Khalifatullaah” for the Mahdi. They have said that Allah can’t have a Khalifah, since the word refers to a successor upon one’s death, wa`eeyaathu billaah. Of course Allah is the Everlasting who can never die. Though they are correct that many of the scholars of objected linguistically (such as al-Maawardi in “ahkam al-Sultaaniyah” while acknowledging a difference of opinion) remarking this is not a permissible term for the Pious Caliphs (citing Abu Bakr’s and `Umar’s objection to it), they have ignored the fact that the scholars of Tafseer have given this term legitimacy by exception. Imam al-Qurtubi states in his tafseer of the verse in which Allah’s says about the creation of Adam (`alayhis-salaam), “Inny jaa`ilun fi-l ard dhee khalifah..” (“verily, I will place in the earth a ‘khaleefah'”): “And Adam, `alayhis-salaam, is the ‘Khalifatullaah’ in the execution of his laws and orders. For verily he was the first of the Messengers. But there was none in the earth with him? It is said he was a Messenger to his progeny…” So hear Imam al-Qurtubi has found no fault in using the term Khalifatullaah” in reference to Adam (`alayhis-salaam) about whom Allah said himself, “Inny jaa`ilun fi-l ardhee khaleefah..” (al-Baqarah). In volume 6 of “Fath al-Baari Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari”, Imaam ibn Hajar also uses the term in reference to the above mentioned verse about Adam (`alayhis-salaam) in the chapter, “Kitaab Ahadithi-l Ambiyaa’, Bab Khalqi Aadam”. So based on this Hadith’s impeccable chain of narration, and no concensus forbidding the use of “Khalifatullah” specifically for the coming Mahdi, it is plausible to conclude that there may exist a particular bias against the subject of this Hadeeth by certain scholars from a certain part of the world. Those who have studied Hadith know that more leeway has been given for far weaker narrations with more questionable content.

CONCLUSION

Little did the Russians know as they chose to occupy Afghanistan on their way to Pakistan’s warm water ports in Sindh that they were to spark perhaps the final Islamic revival the world would know before the descent of `Eesa ibn Maryam (`alayhis-salaam). For from that struggle, and from that battle, were to sprout the fruits of a global movement which would envelop the entire disbelieving world in awe. A challenge they had not felt since the Sultan’s soldiers besieged the walls of Vienna. The disbelievers have found a brief respite and relief in the imbicility of the Muslim world’s vocal modernist, occidentalist/occidentopheliac element which rushes to fight the movements for Islamic expansion at its every turn. However, the voices of the modernist movements are growing more and more faint as the disgruntled Muslims grow increasingly louder in their demand for freedom from the oppressive rulers that have been beleaguered at the behest of their American and European masters since the turn of the 20th century. Now at the turn  of the 21st century, for the first time in 100 years a country has, regardless of anyone’s question of sincerity, proclaimed its law the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (Sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) without any compromise. For the first time in over 100 years the Soldiers of Allah are fighting the Russians on Russian soil. For the first time in nearly 100 years, Kashgar is broiling with Islamic revival and demands for an independent Shari`ah based state. The Muslims from Morocco to  Afghanistan flooded into the Balkans and defeated the Eastern Orthodox Chrisitans within their own borders. All of this from one small rocky country in Central Asia, once called Khorasan, now called Afghanistan where the most noble and brave Muslims of the Arab group gathered to join their Afghan counterparts. A brotherhood destined to shake the Earth. The Afghans have always been insurmountable and unstoppable fighters, but never statesmen. The Arabs, when under the banner of Islam, have a grand history of diplomatic prowess. This combination will surely spell the end of Islam’s great sleep, and the beginning of a resounding globally concordant Athaan.

Hanbali Fiqh: Touching Women With Desire Breaks Wudhu’

[Compiled by Abul Layth]

The following is some research I did over a year ago for those striving to follow the Hanbali Madh-hab. I am not sure how much benefit it will be for people, but I decided that I would go ahead and post it for those that it may benefit insha’allah.

Al Hajjaawi states in Zaad Al Mustaqni’,

[The fifth nullifier of wudhu’] “He touches a woman bi-shahwah (with desire).”

Imaam Al-Bahuti in his “Rawdh Al Murabbi’” page 42 states, in explaining this: [He touches] meaning the man [a woman with desire] that is because it is calling (or is stimulation) to Al Hadath.

Ibn Qudaamah states in Al-’Umdah regarding the nullifiers of wudhu’:

“And to touch a woman when it is out of shahwah (desire).”

In Al-’Uddah Sharh Al Umdah, Imaam Bahaa’ud-deen Al Maqdisi states after mentioning the three reported opinions,

“…And the third report, and it is the Thaahir (manifest opinion) of the Madh-hab, that it (i.e. the touch) nullifies the wudhu’ when it is done due to shahwah (desire), and it does not nullify the wudhu’ if it is due to other than shahwah, combining all of the verses and narrations together…” ((Page 45 of Al-Uddah published by Maktabah Daar As-Salaam ))

Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al Maqdisi states in Al Kaafi Fi Fiqh Al Imaam Ahmad page 74,

“[And the Third Opinion:] It is the Thaahir of the Madh-hab and it is that touching a woman out of shahwah (desire) nullfies the wudhu’. Touching does not nullify the wudhu’ if it is not done out of shahwah, [and this is derived by] combining all of the Aayaat and Narrations (Al Akhbaar). The “touch” is not hadath in and of itself, rather it is what calls (daa’) to hadath…”

The Sheikh continues with drawing a simile to An-Nawm (sleep), and how sleep itself is not hadath, but what it leads to (such as the probability of passing gas etc). For more detail see Sharh Al Kabeer and Al Mughni.

In Dalil At-Taalib, Shaykh Mar’i ibn Yusuf Al-Karmi writes,

“And the fifth (nullifier of wudhu’) is when a man touches a woman or a woman touches a man due to shahwa…”

In the gloss of Dalil At-Talib, Nayl Al-Maa’rib of Imam Abdul-Qaadir ibn ‘Umar Ash-Shaybaani he comments on the above,

“Due to Allah’s statement ‘…or touching women…’ and as for the touch it does not break wudhu’ unless it done out of shahwa due to the gathering of all the verses and narrations (akhbaar).” ((page 17 of Al-Azhar’s old publication – undated))

May Allah bless our beloved Prophet Muhammad, His family, His Companions, and those that follow them in righteousness. Amin!

THE SUNNAH BURIAL PROCEDURE

By Mujlisul Ulama

WHEN THE MAYYIT IS BURIED, THE CORRECT SUNNAH PROCEDURE IS AS FOLLOWS:

(1) AFTER THE BODY HAS BEEN   LAID IN THE QABAR, AND THE GRAVE IS READY FOR FILLING, THOSE NEARBY AND ANYONE ELSE, SHOULD WITH BOTH HANDS THROW SAND INTO THE QABAR THREE TIMES.

When throwing sand with both hands the first time, recite:

منھا خلقناكم

The second time, recite:

وفيها نعيدكم

The third time, recite:

و منها نخرجكم تارة اخرى

If you have not memorized these three Qur’aanic verses, then simply recite Bismillaahir Raheem.
(2) THEREAFTER, FILLING WITH THE SPADES SHOULD BEGIN. Those with the spades should   wait until the above Sunnah method has been observed.

(3) All those present should recite of the Qur’aan Majeed whatever they are able to. Surah Yaaseen, Surah Mulk, the first 5 Verses of Surah Baqarah and the last Ruku’ of Surah Baqarah are preferable. Also the short Surahs from Surah Takaathur to the end are preferable.

(4) THE RECITATION SHOULD BE SILENTLY. There is no congregational ceremony / method of recitation and dua.

(5) After having recited the Qur’aanic Surahs and Aayaat, make a silent dua WITHOUT RAISING THE HANDS. Ask Allah Ta’ala to accept what you have recited and to bestow the Thawaab (reward) to the Mayyit.

(6) THE RECITATION AND THE DUA SHOULD BEGIN EVEN WHILST THE GRAVE IS BEING FILLED. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DELAY UNTIL AFTER THE QABAR HAS BEEN FILLED.

(7) AFTER YOU HAVE RECITED, YOU MAY LEAVE. IT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR ALL TO LEAVE AT THE SAME TIME. PEOPLE   BASELESSLY BELIEVE THAT THE RECITATION AND DUA HAVE TO BEGIN AFTER THE GRAVE HAS BEEN FILLED, AND THAT THE IMAAM HAS TO COMMENCE. THERE IS NO IMAAM ON THIS OCCASION. THE ENTIRE PROCEDURE IS BY INDIVIDUALS. YOU MAY CONTINUE RECITING LONG AFTER THE GRAVE HAS BEEN FILLED AND THE PEOPLE HAVE DEPARTED, OR YOU MAY LEAVE WHILST THE GRAVE IS BEING FILLED.

(8) THE PRACTICE OF BEGINNING THE RECITATION AND DUA BY THE IMAAM AFTER THE GRAVE HAS BEEN FILLED, AND ALL STAND LISTENING IS BASELESS. IT IS BID’AH. REGARDING THE RECITATION AND DUA, NO ONE IS IN CHARGE. EVERY PERSON SHOULD MAKE DUA AND LEAVE WHENEVER HE DESIRES.

(9) BESIDES THE AFOREMENTIONED PROCEDURE, ALL OTHER METHODS WHICH ARE OBSERVED IN DIFFERENT PLACES ARE BID’AH. REGARDING BID’AH, RASULULLAH (SALLALLAHU ALAYHI WASALLAM) SAID:

“Every bid’ah is deviation, and every deviation will be in the fire.”

(10) OF ABSOLUTE IMPORTANCE IS TO REFRAIN FROM ENGAGING IN WORLDLY CONVERSATION IN THE QABRUSTAAN. THE CEMETERY IS THE ABODE   WHERE YOU WILL HAVE TO COME ONE DAY. IT IS A REMINDER OF YOUR OWN IMPENDING DEATH. IT IS NOT A PLACE FOR WORLDLY CONVERSATION, LAUGHING, JOKING AND GHAFLAT (OBLIVIOUSNESS).
